Moto X VS HTC One

Friday 2 August 20130 comments

Should you get a Moto X or an HTC One? That's the first question I asked myself when I first saw Motorola's Android smartphone hours ago and it's likely to be something that many others ask in the coming weeks. It's far too early to form a definitive opinion about either, especially considering that the X has only officially existed for a few hours. It's even harder when considering that I'm firmly of the opinion that the HTC One is the best Android smartphone available at the moment. Well, at least that's the opinion I had when I woke up this morning.

I'll be back in due time with a full review comparing the Moto X and HTC One at a later date, but one thing struck me about the two phones: they have the same screen size but the Moto X is noticeably smaller. Motorola made a big deal about building a phone that is compact but still has a large display.

The efforts were proven successful when looking at the Moto X next to an HTC One. Both phones have 4.7-inch screens despite what your eyes may think when the phones are side-by-side. The HTC One's dimensions are 137.4x 68.2mm (5.41 x 2.69 x 0.37in) and The Moto X is 129.3 x 65.3mm (5.09 x 2.57in). That doesn't seem like much on paper, but it's definitely noticeable.

The X manages to deliver the big display without becoming a big phone. The differences become less noticeable in its favor when discussing dimension. At its thickest point, the Moto X is 10.4mm (0.41), and 5.6mm (0.22in) at it's thinnest. The HTC One has a more elegant curve that is 9.3mm (0.37in).

Until we get to the proper comparison between the HTC One and Moto X finished, take a look at this hands-on video showcasing the two next to each other. A spec showdown is also available below.
