To commemorate its 50th anniversary, Italian super sports car manufacturer Automobili Lamborghini launched a limited edition of its model Gallardo LP550-2 in India with an ex-showroom Maharashtra price of Rs.3.06 crore.
Six cars
The company manufactured six exclusive Indian limited edition cars out of which one car has been sold to a Bangalore-based entrepreneur prior to the launch.
The Gallardo LP550-2 Indian edition sports three colours such as Pearl Orange, White and Pearl Green on its exterior as a dedication of three colours of the Indian national flag. This limited edition car also has a tricolour strip that runs its entire length that is from its front bonnet to the roof and the engine bonnet.
“This is the way we wanted to pay tribute to India and be different. We could have an Indian monument painted on the car for exclusivity, but we decided for the tri-colour theme,” said Pavan Shetty, Head of Operations, Lamborghini India.
The interior has also got shades of the tricolour on the seat and dashboard. Considering the bumpy road condition in India, the car comes with a lifting facility which provides enhanced ground clearance, making the car usable for buyers.
“India has developed into an important market for Lamborghini. We have seen an amazing change and rapid growth in this country and every month there is a new segment of buyers for our car” Mr. Shetty said.
South India showroom
Since 2006, Lamborghini has sold 90 cars in India out of which 31 cars have been sold in 2011 and 2012 since the company set up base here. At present, it has two showrooms in Delhi and Mumbai and one more is planned for South India by the end of this year. At present, India has an annual demand for 100 super cars, including those manufactured by Lamborghini. Recently, the company had launched Aventador Roadster with a price of nearly Rs.5 crore.
