Nexus 7 to launch in Australia and UK on August 28

Sunday, 11 August 20130 comments

Asus has just confirmed the 2013 Nexus 7 will be available in the United Kingdom on August 28th. The UK will receive the updated tablet for £199 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model, £239 for the 32GB Wi-Fi version, and the 4G/LTE 32GB model will set you back £299. The US is offering the same models for 229USD, 269USD and 349USD, respectively. Meanwhile, an Australian online store, PLE Computers, has also announced pricing for the new device Down Under for 299AUD, 339AUD and 439AUD and should launch the same date as in the UK.

For anyone who missed all the leaks and announcements of recent weeks, the new Nexus 7 is not all that dissimilar, specs-wise, from the existing Nexus 4 and has only performed mildly better than it in benchmark tests. Funnily enough though, Asus has branded the new processor as a Snapdragon S4 Pro when it's essentially a Snapdragon 600 throttled down to slower speeds. There's also not too much different in the new Nexus 7 compared to last year's model, other than running Android 4.3 out of the box.

The launch of the device did have a really nice promo video which I also wanted to share just because it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. And just because I'm not all that impressed by what I've seen and heard so far doesn't mean the new Nexus 7 isn't worth a look. Have a read of my colleague's assessment here for an alternative perspective.
