With Mercedes-Benz tuning specialist Brabus launching the 2014 S-class upgrade package last week, it was only a matter of time that its rival ABT Sportsline came out with its own version of upgrades.
The Volkswagen Group tuning expert has introduced a new performance programme for the Audi SQ5. The SQ5 is Audi’s first ‘S’ model fitted with a diesel engine. The SQ5 runs a 313PS-generating, 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 oil-burner.
ABT has worked both on the aesthetics and the engine. The car has been given a wide-body kit with new bumpers, redone side skirts and drawn-out wheel arches. It also gets a new bold grille, lowering springs and add-ons to the intakes and rocker panels. An option on wheels of sizes ranging from 20-22 inches is available. These wheels get gunmetal alloys to complete that robust and menacing look.
Under the hood, this crossover comes with an impressively tuned engine. The tuner kit ups the engines output from 313PS to 360PS. Peak torque manages a jump of 50Nm from 650Nm to a massive 700Nm. What is further impressive is that this torque is available at comparatively lower revs.
No absolute numbers have been confirmed for acceleration and top speeds but the standard SQ5 pulls off a 0-100 dash in 5.1 seconds, while reaching a top speed electronically limited to 250 kmph.
